Dalziel pupils shine at badminton event

DALZIEL High pupils continued their excellent record in the Lanarkshire Schools Badminton Championships by collecting a string of titles when the annual event in Wishaw Sports Centre.

Craig Morrison won the under-19 boys' single for the second year in a row and there was more success for Craig and Kirsty Hannigan when they retained their senior mixed doubles title.

Craig's twin sisters, Sophie and Hannah, faced each other in the under-14 girls' final with Sophie taking the honours.

However, Hannah got the better of her twin when she and Kris Hawkins beat Sophie and Robert Dunn in straight sets in the under-16 mixed doubles final.

Hannah and Sophie also teamed up to win the under-14 girls' doubles.

Robert beat Kris in three sets to give Dalziel further success in the under-15 boys' singles final and the pair teamed up to win the under-16 boys' doubles.

Meanwhile in the under-16 singles final Dalziel's Scott Jackson defeated schoolmate Gary Jamieson.
