MOTHERWELL accused Paul Slane of lacking loyalty as the 18-year-old winger signed for Celtic this week for an undisclosed fee.

Chairman John Boyle said: "We tried and tried to get Paul to sign a long-term contract.

"We offered him improved, competitive terms in line with other progressing youngsters at the club, but both personally and through his agent he refused.

"
Paul has been at the club for six years and we have financed his development and nurtured his talent, culminating in his senior debut at the end of last season.

"We stuck by and supported him over those years through both personal issues and injury, and felt we were due some degree of loyalty for our efforts. Sadly he has chosen to move on."

Meanwhile, 'Well have completed the signing of New Zealand international Michael McGlinchey on loan until the end of the season.

The former Celtic midfielder is hoping to play in the World Cup and needs match practice after the end of the Australian season.

Meanwhile, 'Well have extended the loans of Everton duo Lukas Jutkiewicz and John Ruddy until the end of the season while former Reading full back Daniel Spence has arrived at Fir Park on trial.
