Strange sighting of big cat at Carfin Grotto
A MOTHERWELL man was shocked to see what he believed to be a big cat prowling around the area near Carfin Grotto.
David Todd was sitting in the glass chapel at 4.15pm on Friday, August 20, with his wife Sandra when he saw the animal, which he thinks may have been a lynx, walking along the perimeter of the Grotto.
He said: "We go up to the grotto quite often and usually see lots of rabbits wandering about but were shocked when we saw this big cat.
"It was about the size of a greyhound with similarly slim legs and a big head. It was light in colour and I reckon it could have been a lynx. I have a cat of my own and it was much larger than that."
David's description closely matches that of a eurasian lynx which is widely found in the forests of Northern and Eastern Europe and parts of Asia.
