Scheme helps give unemployed the red card

A GROUP of Lanarkshire families have spent the summer getting ready to give unemployment the red card.

The Fit For Your Family's Future event was launched by the North Lanarkshire's Working group in partnership with Motherwell FC.

It provided unemployed parents with the chance to receive fitness, diet and nutrition advice from the club's trainers as well as practical support to develop self-confidence and IT skills.

Participating children got the chance to take part in expert football skills training at the same time.

Among the group was Craigneuk man Alan King (25), who attended with stepdaughter Emma Lindsay (6).

Alan said: "Taking part in the course was a real eye-opener for me. I've had a variety of jobs in the past, but seeing Motherwell FC's coaches at work made me realise that I would really like to make a career out of doing what they do.2

Maureen McConachie, head of regeneration services at North Lanarkshire Council, said: "Projects such as this are a great way to engage with the community and encourage jobseekers to look at their options in a different light, which can often be difficult after a long time spent in unemployment."
